I feel like I am in a pickle. We go to WDW in Oct and usually stay at WL. We want to try somewhere different this year. In an effort to cut the budget will be disappointed by a moderate resort? Coronado springs best moderate? I am nervous mod vs lux?

    Hi Theresa!

Thank you for sending in your question to the Moms Panel.  I've had the privilege of staying in or eating in every Walt Disney World Resort hotel.  My personal favorite resort is the Wilderness Lodge, followed by the Polynesian and the Beach Club.  I wanted to answer this question because my family can't always afford to stay in a Disney Deluxe Resort.  When we can't we always stay at Port Orleans Riverside, especially the Alligator Bayou section of that resort.

The landscaping at Port Orleans Riverside is fantastic.  Alligator Bayou rooms are in rustic backwoods cottages.  The rooms have wooden furniture and while they are much smaller than the rooms at the Wilderness Lodge, they do remind me of the Lodge.

The pool at Port Orleans Riverside is also very nice.  While the theming is not as nice as the pool at the Wilderness Lodge, the water slide at Riverside is much longer and better than the one at the Wilderness Lodge.  The food court is larger at Riverside and there are carriages rides available.  There is also a boat that goes from Port Orleans to Downtown Disney.  It is particular nice at night.  Finally, guests at Port Orleans Riverside can use all of the services and amenities at Port Orleans French Quarter, including the pool.

I'm not a big fan of Coronado Springs.  It's a very large resort and it is a convention hotel for business travelers.  Personally, I don't want to be reminded of work when I'm on vacation at Walt Disney World.  Many guests also find its food court confusing, though that's the one aspect of the resort I do like.  It also does have an awesome pool for children.

Enjoy planning and write back if you have any more questions!
