My father went to Disneyland the first week it opened in 1955. He's now 91 and I'd like to take him back as it has been years since he has been. Are there any recommendations for planning his day at the park? He is mobility restricted.

Hey there, David, and thank you for reaching out to us at planDisney! It sounds like you have a very special trip to Disneyland Resort planned with your father, and I'm honored to help you make it as magical as possible.

First and foremost, if your father has mobility restrictions, it's important to plan ahead to ensure that his visit is as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. Disneyland Resort offers a variety of services for guests with disabilities, including wheelchair and ECV rentals and accessible attractions.

While some attractions may not be suitable for guests with mobility restrictions, there are many other attractions and experiences that he can enjoy – a few of which he would have seen on his very first visit!

For example, your father may enjoy attractions that allow him to remain seated, such as "it's a small world," Pirates of the Caribbean, and Walt Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room. You could also consider some of the attractions that have been around since opening day like the Disneyland Railroad, Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride, and Peter Pan’s Flight.

Additionally, shows like the "Magic Happens" parade and World of Color - ONE are great options for guests who may have difficulty standing for long periods of time.

Another great option for guests with mobility restrictions is the Disability Access Service (DAS), which allows guests to schedule return times for select attractions and experiences, avoiding long lines and minimizing physical strain. If you decide you’d like to see if you qualify for this option, I’d recommend preregistering with the DAS Advance option.

Finally, my personal recommendation would be to take advantage of at least one park bench per land where you can sit with your father and ask him to share a memory or three with you while you both enjoy some popcorn or a churro. The attractions and shows are amazing, but being able to spend some quality time with your father and sharing memories together is what will make this vacation unforgettable.

Thank you for entrusting us with your father's visit to the Disneyland Resort, David! This has truly been such a gift to be able to think through an answer for this one. I hope you have an amazing time!

    Have a Magical Day,
    Greg
