My father & i will be visiting in June with my 6 year old daughter. She has autism and I'm afraid she may have an outburst during some attractions and spoil it for others. Do you have any suggestionsthat may help if she does have an episode?

    Hi Jennifer,

I would first obtain a note from your Doctor on your child's condition and that waiting in line would be too overstimulating for her.  You can then go to Guest Relations at the theme park you are visiting for the day. Ask for a Guest Assistance Card and speak with a Cast Member about your concerns about your daughter.  Make sure she is with you as well.  This Guest Assistance Card (GAC) will allow you to bypass the lines or have an alternative area to wait.  I would also bring items with you that you know your child likes to diffuse her tension.  This could be music, an iPad, Game boy, etc.  If she likes to color, feel free to bring coloring books and colored pencils or crayons.  You have her play with cards or a memory game as well.  Distraction is the key as you well know.  If she does have an episode, do not worry too much.  I have been in the theme parks often enough to know that all children have a melt down sooner or later whether they are autistic or not.  Remember to take your time and see the magic from the eyes of your daughter.
