My father in law has COPD, a heart condition, and needs assistance walking, a few questions.Do we need to reserve a wheelchair or electronic jazzy before visiting the parks?

Hi there Melanie, and welcome back to planDisney!

I am so excited to hear that you are planning a visit during the World’s Most Magical Celebration this spring. The Walt Disney World Resort has services for Guests with mobility issues.

Your father-in-law has the option to rent a wheelchair or Electrical Conveyance Vehicle or ECV when he arrives at a Disney Theme Park or Disney Springs. Unfortunately, reservations are not accepted. ECVs are available on a first-come, first-served basis. The number of ECVs available is limited, so I would suggest that you arrive early to rent one. Length of stay rentals are unavailable, however, if you leave a theme park and plan to return, you can let a Cast Member know and they will hold your ECV for you until your return. ECVs cannot leave the destination in which they were rented.

If you are a Guest of a Disney Resorts Collection hotel and need an ECV to use at your resort, I recommend renting from Disney’s Featured Provider Scooter Bug. They have a variety of styles and options available. They will also deliver your ECV to your resort and pick it up after your trip has ended. They work with the Disney Cast Members at your resort to manage your deliveries and returns of your ECV. I hope this will help your father-in-law be able to comfortably enjoy himself during your vacation. If you have any more questions please reach out to Disability Services at (407) 560-2547.

    See ya real soon,
