Is Fast passes only good for people who stay at a Disney resort?

    Such a great question!

So no, the FastPass+ program is not reserved just for Disney Resort guests!

But how does it differ if you are staying at a Disney Resort? So any guest can choose a FastPass+ up to 30 days before their visit. But guests staying at a Disney Resort get to make their selections 60 days ahead of time. Of course in both instances you will need to have valid theme park admission to use these passes.

Does that mean that all the FastPass+ options will be taken by Disney Resort guests before the rest of us not staying at a Disney resort can select them? Absolutely not! Now admittedly there might be an attraction here or there that is not available on the day or time you would prefer to see it, but there will be plenty of other options.

What I would suggest you do is get your account set up in My Disney Experience ahead of time. That way, when your window to book FastPass+ selections opens you will be ready to go!
