With Fast Pass gone, is there another system for guests to reserve times for specific attractions such as the Avatar ride or the Star Wars ride at Magic Kingdom? I heard there was but I cannot find it anywhere on this site.

Greetings, Kathleen! Welcome to planDisney! It's a perfect day to plan a visit to the Walt Disney World Resort. Actually, every day is a perfect day to plan a visit to the Walt Disney World Resort, so let's get to it!

Kathleen, you sound like a vacation planner after our own hearts here at planDisney. We're all about maximizing the fun during our Disney days, and making FastPass+ selections for our must-do attractions was a big part of that process. But as you know, FastPass+ is on hold for now as part of Walt Disney World's phased reopening plan, and there's really no other system in place that allows you to reserve a time to ride. For most attractions, that means we're hopping in the standby line and soaking in the atmosphere while we wait. Trust me, some of the queues are practically attractions in themselves!

There is one attraction that works a little differently, however, and you'll find it in a galaxy far, far away.

To ride Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, you must first be assigned a boarding group. You'll need the My Disney Experience mobile app on your phone, along with a valid ticket and a Disney Park Pass reservation for Disney's Hollywood Studios. You'll have two chances to join a boarding group on the day you'd like to ride. As I write this, the first opportunity to join is at 7 a.m. each day, and the second is at 1 p.m. You don't have to be in the park to try for the 7 a.m. distribution window, so you can set an alarm and fire up your app before you even leave your Resort hotel room! If you're able to join, you'll be assigned a boarding group number and an estimate of how long it will be before your group may be called. When it's your turn to ride, you'll get an alert to head over to the entrance and help the Resistance fight the First Order!

You'll find more details on how to join a boarding group for Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance on the Frequently Asked Questions page on the Walt Disney World website. Again, this is the only attraction with a virtual queue. All other attractions feature the standby queue only.

I hope I was able to help you sort out the different ways to hop aboard your favorite attractions, Kathleen. If you have any more questions, be sure to stop by and see us again. We're always here to help!

    Keep Disney Dreaming,

Even after all these years and so many visits, I love that there's still so much to discover! Now that I'm a mom myself, seeing my favorite place through my son's eyes has given me a whole new perspective that I enjoy sharing with other parents of young children. Learn More About Kathy
