Hi Arese,
Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel! It is lovely to greet a fellow North Carolinian!
Disney's Contemporary Resort is my family's favorite resort so I am delighted to respond to your question.
Yes, the walkway to the main building is covered. The Garden Wing has several sections. The walk to the first section is perhaps two minutes. The first section of the Garden Wing rooms are numbered in the 5000's. Rooms in the 5100's are on the first floor, 5200's are on the second floor and 5300's are on the third floor. The Garden Wing also has rooms in the 4000's and the 6000's. Rooms in the 6000's are not as close to the main building.
Although rooms in the 5000's are closest to the main building, rooms in the 6000's are closer to Bay Lake. During one of our visits, we stayed in the 5000's section and the pool was right out of the door closest to our room. During our last visit, we stayed in a room in the 6000 section and had a view of Bay Lake from our patio. Even though the room was a bit of a hike from the main tower, the view of Bay Lake was priceless.
Remember also that first floor rooms have patios. We always request a first floor room. There are no balconies on the upper floors. In addition, there is a laundry room in the Garden Wing. We use it on every visit!
The Contemporary Resort has
Monorail Access and you can walk to Magic Kingdom from the resort! Finally, do not forget to make a
Dining Reservation at
Chef Mickey's. It is one of our favorite restaurants!
Happy Planning!
