Megan from OH Asked Please note that experiences, policies, pricing and other offerings are subject to change and may have changed since the date of this answer.

Should it come to it, how far can I reschedule my future trip? Is it based on open dates at the time or are there rules?

Welcome back, Megan. Thanks for reaching out to us again.

Scar from The Lion King may have been a villain, but his motto of "be prepared" isn't a bad one. Things do happen, and plans do change, so it's a really smart idea to know what your options are. And while other planDisney Panelists have done a great job of letting you know the options in the past, it's always a good idea to check whether anything has changed. So let's go through those options!

If you booked a vacation package through the Walt Disney Travel Company, you can typically receive a full refund, minus any third-party fees you may have added on, if you cancel your trip 30 days or more before arrival. If you cancel between 2 and 29 days before arrival, you'll receive a refund minus your deposit and, once again, any third-party fees. If you cancel 1 day before arrival or do not show up, you will not receive a refund. Of course, you'll want to check the full Terms & Conditions on the Walt Disney World Resort website to confirm.

Now, if you purchased your Disney Resorts Collection Hotel room and your tickets separately, things are a little different. If you cancel your room-only reservation 8 days or more in advance, you are usually eligible for a full refund. If you cancel any later than that, you typically lose your deposit. Theme park-ticket-only purchases are nonrefundable and nontransferable. However, you are usually able to use the value you paid for those tickets toward a new purchase. If your new ticket purchase is more expensive, you would be responsible for the difference at the time of purchase. If the new tickets are less expensive, you would not receive a refund for the difference.

While I really hope you don't have to reschedule, it's always a good idea to research your options and, well, be prepared. If you have any other questions, just let me know!

From one well-prepared planner to another,
    Matt
