How far in advance of a trip can I buy a magic band? I might find one I really like now but my trip isn’t for a couple years. Will they already be running when I get them? Or do they have one of those pull tabs to start the battery working. I don’t want it

    Hi Reva!

I didn't think I would be interested in the specialty MagicBands, but I have caught the designer bug and have quite a few in my collection now, so I understand wanting to purchase one you really like now even if your trip isn't coming up.  Disney states the battery life of a MagicBand is approximately 2 years, however, my husband has been using one that he bought in 2014 and it still works.  They do not have pull tabs, so you'll be taking a gamble on if it will still be working by vacation time in a few years.

You can certainly purchase one now if you find one you like, but I bet you that there will be more you'll fall in love with that will be released closer to your vacation in 2023.  That's exactly why I have a collection of specialty MagicBands now!  You can browse a limited selection of MagicBands on the Shop Disney website, but the best place to purchase them with the most to choose from is in person at Walt Disney World.  The Disney Parks Blog is also a great resource for announcements when new MagicBand designs are released.

Please stop back by if you have any additional vacation planning questions.

    Have a magical day!
