How far in advance will I need to purchase the Lightning Lane pass and are there certain times to purchase them?

    Hello Sherita,

    Welcome to planDisney!

As with anything new, Disney Genie+ and Individual Lightning Lane reservations can be a bit confusing until you get the hang of making and using the service. It seems like you might already know this, but Genie+ gives you the ability to skip the standby lines at over 40 attractions throughout Walt Disney World. You can purchase Genie+ for your entire trip when you book your vacation, or you can choose to purchase it daily. You may decide you don't need or want it on every day of your vacation. If you only want Genie+ for individual days, you can purchase it beginning at midnight on the day you are planning to tour the park. Don't feel like you need to stay up late, however. I just recommend buying it before you can make your first Lightning Lane selection at 7:00 a.m.

Now, there are also Individual Lightning Lane access to two attractions in each park that are available for purchase separately. They are not included with your Disney Genie+ purchase, and you can buy them without having Genie+. The cost for these attractions fluctuates between $7 and $15 per ride, per person. Disney Resort Hotel Guests can purchase Lightning Lane access to these rides beginning at 7:00 a.m., and other park guests can purchase them when the park opens.

Of course, for every attraction, you can always choose to wait in the standby lines. If you are staying for multiple days, you may want to assess the crowds and wait times on your first day, and then decide if you want to purchase Genie+ on the remainder of your vacation.

    Hope this helps. Happy planning!

I took my first trip to Walt Disney World when I was 11 and I have traveled many times since then with all different party sizes. From creating our first itinerary as a honeymooner to later creating magical experiences for our multigenerational family gatherings, every aspect of planning a vacation has been pure joy to me.  Learn More About Diane
