Hi, how far in advance should I book my Disney tickets when I want to come in July?

Hello Johannes, and welcome to planDisney! I am honored to receive your first question all the way from New Zealand. I can only imagine how excited you must be about your upcoming trip in July, and we are here to help you plan it.

I have some great news for you! You can already book tickets and vacation packages for July 2024 and 2025. And although you can buy tickets on the day of your visit in theory, if they are still available and the Theme Park you want to visit has the capacity, I would not recommend it as July is a very busy month with summer vacations and schools out.

When planning your trip to the Walt Disney World Resort, there are many things to consider. You need to think about hotel reservations, Lightning Lane selections, and whether getting a service like Disney Genie+ is right for you and your party. You can also make Advanced Dining Reservations to enjoy one or more of the 200+ restaurants across the resort. It's easier to plan all of this if you have your tickets secured and linked to your My Disney Experience account

What I like to do is make plans around 9-10 months before my trip. Disney is super flexible with both tickets and vacation package reservations, so as long as you read any specifics about your purchase regarding cancellations, refunds, and modifications, it's a good idea to get your tickets well in advance and change them if necessary. It has happened to me before; I would schedule a trip for the next year, but then my wife would change jobs, and our vacation dates needed to be changed. A quick visit to the My Disney Experience app or a call to my travel agent later, and I was able to change the dates.

Personally, I like the feeling of starting my vacation having paid for all the basics: hotel, tickets, and maybe even a Disney Dining Plan. It doesn't make any difference in my bank account, but I like to know that everything is already taken care of, and I get to enjoy magical days without worrying about anything.

Johannes, I hope this information is helpful as you plan your trip. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have more questions. We're always here to help make your Disney dreams come true!
