Is the Fantasmic meal considered (as one table service meal) part of the DDP? If so, you just need to make reservations? If not, can you just go to the Fantasmic show as part of the park visit & do you need to make reservations?

As long as you dine at Hollywood & Vine or Mama Melrose the Fantasmic! meal package will count as a single credit on the dining plan, Martha.  If you choose to dine at the Hollywood Brown Derby, two credits will be deducted as it is a signature restaurant.  If you choose to take part, you would need to call 407-WDW-DINE and make reservations for the Fantasmic! meal package.  Without the meal package, you are still welcome to enjoy Fantasmic!  It would just require waiting in line to see the show, whereas guests who use the meal package are treated to priority seating.  I hope that clears things up for you!
