My family (13 & 10 year old kids) are supposed to be heading to WDW on Saturday, but my husband just blew out his knee on Sunday. Can you offer some tips for handling crutches and getting around WDW & Carribean Beach Resort?

    Dear James,

Thanks for reaching out to us here at the Disney Parks Moms Panel!

So bummed to hear that your husband won't be in tip-top park walking ability for your trip! The great news is that Walt Disney World Resort is renowned for the services that it offers to guests with disabilities both acute and chronic!

As I'm sure you know, you will probably do a bit more walking during your time at the parks than you would on an average day, so you might consider renting a wheelchair or an ECV for your husband while you're there. That might take some of the strain off of him while in the parks. If you rent directly from Walt Disney World, you can use it in the parks, return it at the front, and then use the buses to get back and forth from the hotel If you rent from one of the preferred providers, you can take the ECV onto the bus back to the hotel as well.

Most attractions are accessible to varying degrees to people who are mobility-impaired during their visit, and I have seen that Cast Members really go out of their way to assist guests who are having difficulty getting around. For example, many attractions offer a "virtual line" so that you may avoid him having to wait in an actual line, which might be too challenging for him. Don't be afraid to ask for assistance when needed.

I know that you can have a truly magical vacation despite these limitations!
