Want to take family to WDW in '13, but never been! No idea what to expect. My kids will be 5 and 2.. What's the best length of time to go and some key things to do for that age group? Also, my son is autistic - is the park special needs friendly? Thanks!

Hi, Angela!  First, as to your question about Walt Disney World being special need friendly, I would say they are one of the best places I've ever traveled with guests needing special assistance or accommodations.  For your autistic son, you may want to get a Guest Assistance Card, available at Guest Services at the theme park.  You can explain his special needs, and it will be indicated on the card, so cast members at the various attractions will help you to keep your vacation magical.  They may offer you an area to wait in out of the sun and crowds, or they may recommend seating in a theater that is further away from any loud noises.  They are there to help you, so let them know how they can help!

With kids this age, I would say you would need at least one full day at each theme park, and maybe a break in between.  Five days or six would be a good first trip.  Six allows you to see each park at least once, gives you a day to chill at the pool, and gives you a chance to go back to the one park your children really loved.

The new Fantasyland at the Magic Kingdom might be just perfect for kids this age, but there are a lot of Disney classics you might not want to miss.  Pirates of the Caribbean, It's a Small World, or even the Haunted Mansion are all class attractions.  Buzz Lightyear at the Magic Kingdom has been a favorite of my kids, as well as Toy Story Midway Mania at Hollywood Studios.

We will get you through every step of your planning!  Don't stress!  When you've got questions or concerns, head right back here and we'll give you all of our best advice!
