Mom With Kids After Run

We are a family of 4 going to WDW in March, 2011, and staying at Animal Kingdom Lodge (4 nights). Our girls ages are 17 and 4. I know, big difference! Any suggestions on how to make them both happy without us splitting up too much?

Hi, Michele!  As mom to daughters ages 19 and five (with a nine year old tossed in the middle for good measure), I know you worry about everyone having a good time on vacation.  I love that Walt Disney World seems to have a good balance.

There are plenty of attractions both of your girls will want to do and see.  I imagine things like Pirates of the Caribbean, the Haunted Mansion, and Buzz Lightyear (all at the Magic Kingdom) are attractions both girls might enjoy.  My oldest daughter also likes to tour Innoventions with her sisters, checking out the various activities and enjoying the demonstrations.  They all love the safari at Disney's Animal Kingdom, and even though the little one covers her ears, they are all eager to see Indiana Jones at Disney's Hollywood Studios.  Toy Story is another hit that spans the generations at Disney's Hollywood Studios.

I try to keep my family together as much as possible, but when there are things the oldest wants to do that the youngest can't, I encourage the use of Fast Pass, so the little one doesn't have to wait too long for her older sisters.  I'll try to do something with the five year old that the older girls might not enjoy, or I'll take her to something like the Honey I Shrunk the Kids playground at Disney's Hollywood Studios, where she can play and run around while we wait for the big kids.

I hope you find it as easy as I do keeping everyone happy at Walt Disney World.  You may be surprised and see your 17 year old on Dumbo the Flying Elephant with her little sister!  There's magic in the air that helps put smiles even on the faces of teenage girls!
