My family would like to watch the Fantasy in the Sky fireworks on Dec. 31, but we'd like to avoid the sardine-packed crowd around the castle. Can you tell me where else we can few the fireworks with a little less crowdedness?

    Hi Marsha!

You're going to be delighted to ring in the New Year at Magic Kingdom! I did so with my family last year, and it had all of us so captivated, the crowds didn't bother us at all! (Mind you, I usually visit off-peak to avoid the large crowds). I was able to see the holiday fireworks and then Fantasy in the Sky...which took my breath away!

You'll notice that crowds will be manged as best as possible by cast members, with ropes and tape abound used to direct traffic flow. This might seem like a nuisance when you'd like to simply cut across to your desired destination, but it works at easing congestion build up.

Last year, areas from Magic Kingdom usually closed off to guests were opened in the evening with some seating and even hula hoops around for the kids to play with while awaiting the countdown. You may want to ask a cast member in the afternoon about any such locations while you're visiting. I spent New Year's Eve in the area behind Tomorrowland and Main Street, U.S.A., while the kids ran around and made friends with other children, and there was no feeling of being packed like a sardine. We were able to view the fireworks perfectly, though we were not able to view the castle. This was not a problem for me on this occasion, since I was happier spending the time in a more relaxed setting than staking out a spot in front of the castle earlier in the evening.

Addition, you'll likely be informed that the fireworks display can be seen from any area in Magic Kingdom. So if you find yourself a spot that suits you, stick around and have fun! This is an incredible way to celebrate the reception of a New Year!
