Welcome to planDisney, Bruce!
I would like to first begin with a thank you to both you and your wife for your service. “Thank You!”
While I am not the one who serves, as a military spouse myself, I know the sacrifices you both have made. For my family, a vacation to
Walt Disney World is where we get to reconnect. The place where dad is home and we can all leave the real world for a few days. I hope you and your family can enjoy the magic of it all during your upcoming visit.
The Flag Retreat ceremony is held in
Town Square each evening, usually around 5:00 p.m. Double check the time on the
My Disney Experience app the day of your visit by searching "Flag Retreat". Being selected to help with the Flag Retreat is just as magical as pixie dust. While there is no specific procedure for being chosen to help, I can give you a few suggestions that may help grant your wish.
My first recommendation is to dress the part. You will be visiting in July so let your patriotism shine! You could even wear a hat or shirt that shows you proudly served. You may even want to chat with a Cast Member at the park entrance about the Flag Ceremony. Ask questions about timing, the best spot to view and show that you’re interested in attending. Maybe, just maybe, pixie dust will find its way to you and you’ll be selected to participate.
Bruce, if you aren’t chosen as the veteran representative, I still recommend taking the time to enjoy the Flag Retreat. It’s truly a beautiful thing to watch and soak in. To my family, it’s the best of both worlds. It’s like our everyday life merged into our favorite vacation spot. I can’t describe the feeling I get when I stand and watch. The pride in my husband’s eyes as he’s experiencing this with our family on vacation melts my heart.
I’m rooting for you and your family, Bruce. Again, thank you for your service and please let us know if there’s anything else we at
planDisney can help with!
