Our family will be visiting WDW and staying at the All Sports motel on the property- we want to be able to eat healthy (well pretty healthy, we are on vacation). Should we rent a car to shop for food, or can you eat healthy in and around the park?

    Hi Mary:

One of the big concerns for my family, any many other families, at generic amusement parks is the lack of healthy food options. Disney, however, has made a huge effort to provide healthy food and snack choices to its guests, and guests vacationing at Disney World now have a lot of control over the food they eat themselves and feed their children.

Even eating at a Disney counter-service location doesn’t mean your family has to eat unhealthily. In addition to traditional park fare such as great burgers, chicken fingers, and french fries, we’ve also found that counter-service locations have added more soups, salads, and wraps as well as more vegetarian options to their menus. Kids can also order healthy foods such as baby carrots, fresh fruit, and applesauce as side items as well as enjoy low-fat milk, juice, or water to drink.

At any Disney dining establishment, even at a counter-service restaurant, do not be afraid to make a special dietary request. If Disney is able to honor your request, they will be happy to do so. Another great tip is that every Disney park has at least one stand or location where you can purchase fresh fruit. Just check your park map for a location of the fruit stand.

Depending on what items you may need, you may be able to satisfy your food shopping needs on property. If you find that you want to have specific foods you cannot find at Disney World, I would not spend the money on taxi fare or car rental (nor spend vacation time at the grocery store). A popular option is to arrange for a grocery delivery to your resort. Check out gardengrocer.com, an online grocery store that will deliver your order directly to your resort. You can even place an order before you leave for Disney World and arrange for the food to be delivered after you arrive at the resort.

    Enjoy your vacation.
