Rachel from PA Asked Please note that experiences, policies, pricing and other offerings are subject to change and may have changed since the date of this answer.

I have a family of 6 visiting wdw Oct 30-nov 2nd(we have 2 kids who will be 6 and 4). I don't even know where to start. I haven't been in 10 years or so and it seems alot has changed. We have an airbnb so far. What should I do next?

Hey, howdy, hey, Rachel! Welcome to planDisney and welcome back to the wonderful feeling of planning a Walt Disney World Resort vacation! Like you, a few years ago, I visited Walt Disney World Resort after a long break, and boy - had things changed! It can absolutely feel overwhelming with all of the new attractions, technology, strategies, and more. My friends and I here at planDisney are here for you, and we are SO excited that you're coming back to our very favorite place - the Most Magical Place on Earth!

A great place to start is familiarizing yourself with the My Disney Experience Mobile App. This will be your go-to resource as you plan your vacation, and while you're visiting Walt Disney World Resort. My favorite features of the app are:

    • Book Advance Dining Reservations for Table Service Restaurants up to 60 days in advance - I recommend one table service meal for each park day, so you get a chance to relax and connect with your family.
    • Map - view wait times, character greeting opportunities, find dining locations, get directions to restrooms, and more.
    • Plan your day with Disney Genie Service, purchase Genie+ and Individual Lightning Lane, and join Virtual Queues. This is where things can get a little complicated, so please spend some time getting to know these features.
    • Photos - view all Disney PhotoPass Service photos and photos from attractions within the Gallery.
Please take into account Theme Park hours and any special events that might affect park hours or offerings, like Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party (a separately-ticketed event) and the EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival (included with admission). Park hours are subject to change and can greatly affect how you plan your day. My family likes to arrive early, so we can take advantage of lower wait times and cooler temperatures in the morning.

Rachel, planDisney has a ton of incredible resources like videos and podcasts that would be super helpful to you as you plan your vacation. I highly recommend you check them out!

Since you have two younger kiddos, I recommend bringing or renting a double stroller. Bring reusable plastic bags for a change of clothes and any rain gear you need, as well as a few favorite snacks and a water bottle. I also like to have a portable phone charger on hand, because I'm the one who manages our day via Disney Genie+ Service, which means I let everyone know where to be, and when!

It sounds like you've booked a place to stay offsite, and that's great! I've stayed both onsite and offsite, and it's important to note that guests of Disney Resorts Hotels will have some opportunities that are not available to offsite guests, like Early Theme Park Entry and complimentary transportation throughout Walt Disney World Resort. If you feel like your family would benefit from those opportunities, you might want to check out some of the Disney Resorts Collection Hotels while you're onsite so you can plan for your next vacation.

Some of the most important things to bring are a sense of humor, your curiosity, comfortable shoes, and lots of patience. Walt Disney World Resort is full of Cast Members who are ready and excited to help with anything you need. There's no such thing as a silly question, and there's always more to learn. Please stop back by planDisney as you continue to prepare for your vacation!

    See you real soon!
