My family and I are visiting Disney World for spring break starting and we will stay at Coronado Springs for the first time. Any tips or previous experience information that you can share? How close is it to Animal Kingdom? Early access?

    Hi Tonya! Welcome to planDisney.

My family considers Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort our “home” when we’re at the Walt Disney World Resort. The theming here just feels like vacation to me, with the beautiful Florida skies over Lago Dorado, the super fun Lost City of Cibola pool, and delicious food and drink options. It’s my pleasure to share some of my must-dos and favorite things about this resort hotel to get you ready to enjoy every magical minute of your visit NEXT week!

The pool is a main draw – if you’ll be traveling with Mouseketeers, they will love the twisty waterslide and pyramid theming. My daughter loves the nachos at the Siestas Cantina pool bar, and I enjoy the frozen Cancun Colada while soaking in the sun from my deck chair. The Dig Site playground is one of my kids’ favorite at any Disney resort. Honestly, Tonya, just walking around this resort is fantastic. It has three main sections, and the theming changes between each one as you circle the lake. I love an early morning walk, watching the sun rise and feeling so peaceful.

Let’s talk food, which is one of the major reasons we keep coming back to this resort. El Mercado de Coronado, the resort’s main food court, has a superpower: they have margarita machines! I enjoy every flavor, but the Fiesta Margarita layers classic lime, mango, and strawberry and is so, so good. Three Bridges Bar & Grill, located over the water in the middle of Lago Dorado, has a huge selection of sangrias and cocktails, but the stand-out menu item is the Warm Manchego and Oaxaca Cheese Dip. Their churros are also amazing!

Make time to visit the Gran Destino Tower, which is the latest addition to Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort. This elegant tower evokes modern Spain, and the décor is beautiful. Don’t miss Barcelona Lounge for coffee (hello, Café con Leche!).

Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park is about a 10 minute drive from Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort, and the bus ride is about 20 minutes. Always factor in an hour if using Disney bus transportation, to allow for bus loading times and capacity restrictions due to the phased reopening.

As for early opening, as part of Walt Disney World Resort’s phased reopening, there is not currently early theme park entry for resort hotel Guests. I would recommend arriving at a theme park early, as you’ll need to go through temperature screening and security at each park before being allowed to enter. It’s at the Cast Members’ discretion, based on safety protocols and operating guidance, whether to begin allowing Guests into the theme park before opening. I recommend looking at the Know Before You Go information to ensure you’re familiar with the health and safety procedures, and talk to a Cast Member at your resort to get the current advice on early theme park arrival. During Spring Break season, some things may look different, and they will have the best advice.

Have the BEST time during your visit! You are going to love Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort – I’m raising my Mickey mug in a cheers to your vacation. Please come back and see us if you have any last minute questions as you count down the days!

    Wishing you a magical vacation,
    Robyn
