My family will be visiting Disney World in April. My daughter has picked a princess dress to wear to the park, and both of my sons (ages 8 and 4) would like to dress as Spider-Man and a Storm Trooper. Are they allowed to wear costume masks in the parks?

    Welcome to planDisney, Amber!

I just LOVE hearing that you’ve got some adorable themed outfits planned for your family’s upcoming visit to the Walt Disney World Resort. One of my essential steps in planning my own visits is dreaming up outfits for each day of our visit: Star Wars outfits for Disney’s Hollywood Studios, animal prints for Disney’s Animal Kingdom, and on and on. It’s so much fun!

For your sons’ costumes, the Attire Guidelines note that some costume masks are permitted on Guests ages 13 and under; masks must not obstruct their peripheral vision and they also must allow the eyes to be seen at all times. Whether costume masks are allowed is at the discretion of security. Please note that they will still be required to wear face coverings as part of health and safety guidelines; the guidelines for acceptable masks can be found on the Returning to a World of Magic web page. It might be that a face covering in addition to a costume mask might be too much for your Spider-Man and Stormtrooper – I would try that on at home and see what they think. It might be that a fun, themed hat or even some face paint might be a better idea than costume masks, or that the masks are put on just for a cute picture or two. Of course, you know your children best – whatever helps them feel safe, comfortable, and ready to have the best day ever! For full costume guidance, as well as other helpful guidance, please take a look at the Park Rules as you prepare for your visit.

I hope your princess, Spider-Man, and Stormtrooper – and your whole family, Amber – have the best time visiting the Walt Disney World Resort. With those adorable costumes planned, I recommend purchasing Memory Maker so you can download all the PhotoPass photos, attraction photos, and magic shots from your trip. One of my favorite sets of photos is from my family’s trip to Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party, where we all wore costumes representing our favorite characters. It just captures the magic of Disney so beautifully, and those photos make lovely keepsakes of those special moments.

    Wishing you a magical vacation,
