Hey Steve, and welcome to planDisney!
With any new advancements - especially when it comes to technology - comes the question of whether it'll be something that new policies may have to be shaped around; I've seen this happen in recent years with things from selfie sticks to lightsabers, droids and event drones! Though I have personally witnessed guests trying out their
Apple Vision Pro over the past year during my visits to Disney destinations around the world, I went over to the friendly folks at
Guest Relations here at Walt Disney World Resort for any insight they'd be able to share:
- At the current time there Walt Disney World Property Rules prohibits guests aged 14 and older from wearing anything that can be considered a mask as far as providing "unobstructed peripheral vision at all times with openings that allow the eyes to be fully seen." While the policies posted for guests to view online don't specifically list any devices, the Cast Members let me know that they may refuse admittance to guests or request that they put away anything that they decide goes against what they deem to be inappropriate attire.
I've watched an instance where a Walt Disney World Resort guest this year was stopped at Security and had to speak with management before being ultimately being approached and informed that they would be unable to wear their Apple Vision Pro in Magic Kingdom Park. While policies are always subject to change without prior notice when it comes to anything new that guests may be bringing with them, it'll be up to you to decide whether this is something you'll want to wait until property rules are updated specific to wearing these before attempting to bring yours along on this upcoming Christmas vacation - and risk being told to put it away or pay for a locker to keep it safely stowed for your days at the theme parks. (Since this information is only accurate as far as the current time of writing, guests are always welcome to bring anything in question to the attention of management to seek confirmation or approval in person, as well as any updated insight they might have about where they'll permit you to wear it.)
While it would be neat to see a future where wearable technology is much more common at the Disney theme parks, it's still perhaps a bit too early as far as permitting guests to safely go about their day with these. However if the advancements and innovation at Walt Disney Imagineering tell us anything, it's that we can never quite say never so it's always great to keep asking and staying updated with policies if they do end up evolving over time. Here's hoping that you'll be able to capture holiday memories in other ways in the meantime!
Wishing you all the best, festive wintery visions of Christmas either way!
