My Family and I are going to visit WDW 5/6 - 5/10/13 and I was wondering what are the best attractions for a 4yr & 7yr old. Also, my son has a severe tree nut allergy and we have to carry an epi pen. Any recommendations on where to eat? Thanks

    Hi Maria,

Your vacation is almost here! Everyone in your family must be so excited to count down the days.

Walt Disney World handles allergies better than almost any company I've seen. Your best bet is to try to make reservations at table service restaurants. When you make these reservations online, there is an option to add in a Special Request; likewise, if you call in a reservation, the cast member will note your allergy. That way the cast members are alerted to your child's allergy before you arrive. However, knowing that your vacation is so close, you may have some difficulty getting reservations to fit your schedule. Quick service locations also have allergy-free options, and there is a book at each restaurant with an ingredients list for all pre-packaged food. Tell a cast member about your allergy, and if possible, ask to speak to the manager about foods that are safe to order.

The line may be long, but I would suggest trying to dine at Be Our Guest for lunch. When you pull up the menu at this restaurant, there is an option to select common allergies (tree nuts being one of the choices). You are then given a menu which only has items that are safe to order. Once you place your order, the food is then prepared in a special area of the kitchen to prevent any cross-contamination. Hopefully, other quick service restaurants will be following this easy ordering process in the future.

Some of our favorite table service restaurants are: Crystal Palace, 50s Prime Time Cafe, Garden Grill, Biergarten, and Tusker House.

I (or one of the other moms) have plenty of suggestions for fun attractions. If you answer a follow-up question specifically about those. We'd be happy to help make a list of "must do" experiences.

Hope this helps. Have a magical vacation!

Meet the Panelist: Diane, Georgia

After spending 25 years in RI, my husband and I relocated to GA with our youngest, who is now in high school. I took my first trip to Walt Disney World when I was 11 and I have traveled many times since then with all different party sizes. From creating our first itinerary as a honeymooner to later creating magical experiences for our multigenerational family gatherings, every aspect of planning a vacation has been pure joy to me.  Learn More About Diane
