Hi Moms! My family and I are vacationing in September, my husband is a retired Marine. I was curious how the special guest are chosen for the flag ceremony? I would love to be able to have my husband chosen! Do you know how i go about doing this? Thank you

    Hi Shannon,

Thanks so much for visiting us here on the Moms Panel, and a big thank you to your husband for his service. The Magic Kingdom Park Flag Retreat is one of the most touching ceremonies in all of the Walt Disney World theme parks. I've been lucky enough to view quite a few of them, and it's such a treat to see and experience.

The special guests of the flag retreat ceremony are chosen at random during rope drop at Magic Kingdom. While there aren't any guaranteed ways that your husband will be chosen, there are a few things that you all can do to possibly increase your chances:

    - Wear military theme tees and accessories. One of the cutest things I saw during one ceremony was a veteran with a tee shirt that had a camo Mickey Mouse on the front. He wore a baseball cap that announced that he was a veteran as well. You could even wear a military spouse themed shirt for the day!
    - Activate your Armed Forces Salute tickets before rope drop. If you are using the Disney Armed Forces Salute special park tickets, you'll have to activate them before entering the parks. By doing this at Guest Services, you'll be able to alert Cast Members that you are a military family, and that your husband is a veteran.
    - Talk to the Cast Members. Whether it's a Cast Member that helps you scan your MagicBand, or a Cast Member assisting Guests at rope drop, let them know that you are a military family enjoying a lovely fall vacation. You never know what pixie dust way be blown your way!

I hope this helps you, Shannon. If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask us anytime. We're always here to help.

    Have a fantastical Disney day!
