Family of 7 using the military discount. I know I can only buy 6. If my FIL (retired military) buys an additional, but won’t be there, will I still be able to use it since I’ll be there to present my military ID?

    Welcome, Jacob!

It’s an honor to address your important question regarding Disney Military Salute tickets for your upcoming vacation to the Walt Disney World Resort. Thank you, and your father-in-law, for your service to our great nation which makes you eligible for these special savings. Let’s review what’s possible for your family when it comes to theme park tickets.

You are correct that the details on the Disney Military Salute offer state that an Eligible Service Member may purchase up to six tickets at a Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) Office and that one of those must be used by the Eligible Service Member. You must then activate these tickets upon arrival at the Walt Disney World Resort using your military identification. Unfortunately, even as your father-in-law is eligible to purchase the tickets, you may run into challenges to activate more than six tickets due to this policy. When you arrive, you can activate your Military Salute tickets at a theme park entrance or at Disney Springs prior to entering a theme park on your first day.

Good news though, there is another outlet to purchase your seventh ticket – through Shades of Green, an Armed Forces Recreation Center (ARFC) on the Walt Disney World Resort property. You don’t have to do this in person, and you can purchase that Magic Your Way ticket for the exact number of days needed through this website and associated form. That ticket will arrive in the mail to you, already activated. A question posted on the Shades of Green website has your exact scenario and recommends purchasing the Military Salute + Magic Your Way tickets when you need more than six.

The Disney Military Salute offer provides wonderful savings for our military families in four-or-five day packages. Magic Your Way tickets, discounted at Shades of Green to those eligible, allow more flexibility on the number of theme park days but at a different savings rate. I hope this combination purchase helps maximize the savings for your family’s vacation.

Once you have your tickets, be sure to make theme park reservations for the days you plan to visit one of the four theme parks. You may also secure any dining reservations desired, 60 days in advance. For your party of seven, you may find that making two smaller table reservations is more widely available; you can then speak with the host upon arrival to combine your tables for one family meal.

Please let us know if you have any additional questions as you finalize this special vacation, Jacob! I hope this information eases your mind and gets you well on your way to experiencing all the Walt Disney World Resort has to offer this fall!

    With gratitude,
    Amy
