Hello Lindsay, and thank you for stopping by the Disney Parks Moms Panel with a great question.
I absolutely love collecting
MagicBands. I have quite a few that are more than 2 years old. Unfortunately, there is no way to test or replace the battery in an old MagicBand. I used to carry all of them with me, especially the limited edition MagicBands. On a recent trip, I could not unlock the door to my Resort Hotel room with a MagicBand that was over 2 years old. Lucky for me, I had ordered and accepted the complimentary MagicBand that was associated with that reservation in my bag.
I would recommend getting new MagicBands, especially if you are entitled to complimentary MagicBands as a Resort Hotel guest. Even if the batteries in your old MagicBands still unlock the doors to your room, they may not be strong enough to pick up PhotoPass onboard ride photos and videos. I would not want you to lose a photo that could be added to your Memory Maker account. Even if a
MagicBand is listed as active in your My Disney Experience account, it does not mean the battery is operational. As a rule of thumb, all of my first generation MagicBands are now on permanent display in my home. In addition to the complimentary MagicBand colors, there are dozens of styles available
online, in the Shop Disney Parks app and exclusive event and special edition MagicBands available in all Disney Theme Parks and Disney Springs.
See ya real soon,
Andrea
