My family and I are trying to plan our first vacation to Disney World come the winter holiday. We are trying to decide whether or not to go before or after Christmas. What are your recommendations? Is it crazy busy around that time? Thank you

    Hi Kerry,

My sister's family visited Walt Disney World right after Christmas last year and they found it to be very crowded.  It was a beautiful time to visit the Disney resorts and theme parks but it is one of the busiest times of the year.  In fact, they closed the Magic Kingdom gates because it reached full occupancy one day they were there.  I have heard that occurs regularly on Christmas day.  Some people aren't bothered by crowds.  If you find these park touring conditions less than optimal, I recommend that you go before (rather than after) Christmas.  Early December is best.  As you get closer and closer to Christmas day, the crowds swell.

Many of my friends choose this time of year to visit Walt Disney World but they minimize the time they spend in the parks.  They enjoy fine dining opportunities, go shopping, or lounge at their Disney resort.  They wouldn't miss Christmas at the most magical place on earth.  I suggest that you sit down with your family and decide what your goals for your visit would be.  If riding as many rides as possible in the theme parks is your plan, another time of year might work better for your family.  If soaking up the wonder of Disney during the holidays is your goal, then pack your bags and head there this December!

    Good luck with your decision.
