Jessica:
The site you may be referring to is
www.touringplans.com which features a Crowd Calendar that uses data they've been collecting for years! The site tells you what special events are going on at Disney that might affect the crowds at Disney for the next 30 days. To access farther out than that, you'll have to subscribe to the site, but to me, it's been worth the $10.95 for the year.
As for where to stay, Disney has so many options but my top two favorites are
Bay Lake Towers and
Beach Club Villas.
Bay Lake Towers is Disney's newest property, built beside the Contemporary Hotel. I toured its model two years ago and was floored by the stainless steel appliances, granite counter tops, and leather upholstery. What blew me away have been the views from the rooms I've seen on the internet--not only of the Magic Kingdom, but also Bay Lake.
If you have older children, Beach Club is my recommendation for a summer trip. Its pool complex includes a long slide, sandy beach area (yes, the pools have sand bottoms!), and jets that create a small lazy river. Its proximity to Epcot and Disney's Hollywood Studios, not to mention its views of the Boardwalk lights at night, make it high on my list.
Wishing y'all a magical vacation!
