1st family trip to Disney in March 2014, staying at Ft Wilderness and bringing small dog. She will be at Best Friends pet lodge daily and will be with us at night. Is this w/I walking distance or is there other way to get her there instead of unhooking RV?

Hi Jennie! My family often travels to Walt Disney World with our pets so we take our motor coach and stay at Fort Wilderness. During some of our vacations we have had the need to use the Best Friends Pet Care facility and we have loved the experience. Our dogs seem to enjoy it as they are always anxious to get inside and pull on their leashes. The crew that works there are caring and they encourage the owners to come in and look around at the facilities.

Unfortunately, this facility is located close to the Fort Wilderness Campgrounds but it is not within walking distance. It would be very dangerous to you as well as to the pet to even try to walk the distance as there is a great deal of traffic on the road and there are no sidewalks. Your options would be to unhook your recreational vehicle, take a cab daily, or look into getting an inexpensive rental car during your stay. You can do this through the Car Care Center located on property close to the Magic Kingdom. They offer shuttle service to and from all of the resorts including the campgrounds.

Pets are allowed to stay in your RV during the day if it is a safe situation for the animal and they are not a noise nuisance from barking.  During the warm months you would need to make sure they had plenty of water and air conditioning. Our pets are used to staying in our bus during the days when we are at the park but I do understand that not all pets would be good alone for that amount of time.

I hope this all works out for you in March. We will be down in the Fort at the same time. Look for two little English Bulldogs and come and say hello!
