Shelly:
I don't think you'd be off the mark with either one, but some of the humor at
Hoop Dee Doo always seems to go over the heads of the younger ones in our crew. And if you're shy of
Mickey's Backyard BBQ with its characters for your 9-year-old, they have a roping cowboy that will captivate him. Both meals serve up healthy portions of chicken and ribs, and as much as I love the strawberry shortcake at the Hoop Dee Doo Revue, the all-you-can-eat Mickey ice cream bars at the barbecue will delight everyone.
I know it sounds like I lean toward Mickey's Backyard BBQ,
but because you're going in August, I have to mention that even at 6:00 p.m. in the evening at the heavily wooded Fort Wilderness, it is still hot and humid with the occasional thunder shower. If you're planning to return in the next year or so, I'd probably make plans to go to Hoop Dee Doo this trip in August in
air conditioning and save Mickey's Backyard BBQ for more reasonable weather.
Wishing y'all a magical vacation!
