My family and I will be traveling to Disneyworld next month. We have a special needs son and will need a "stroller as wheelchair" tag and a guest assistance card. Do we need a new tag & card each day at each park or will that last the entire

    Hi Lynn ~

Your trip will be here before you know it and I bet you're too excited to sleep already!

I have a son with several types of special needs who also uses a special needs stroller as a wheelchair and I'm happy to assist you. Disney World has now replaced the Guest Assistance Card (GAC) with the Disabilities Service Access Card (DAS). It works a little different than the GAC did in the past. Here is some information about how the new Disabilities Service Access Card works. While you're at Guest Relations to get your son's DAS, you can also request a band that will indicate to Cast Members that you will be using your son's stroller as a wheelchair. They no longer indicate that on the DAS with a special stamp like they did on the GAC.

They will date both the DAS and the band for your son's stroller to last throughout your stay up to 14 days. If your stay is longer than 14 days, you'll need to go back to Guest Relations for them to reissue new ones. It should only take a couple of minutes if you take the first ones in with you but your son will need to have his picture retaken. They told me they are working on a system to store pictures but as of the end of December 2013, that wasn't in place yet. Of course, that could change before your trip.

Please feel free to visit with any other questions. We're hEAR to help!

Wishing you minnie magical memories :-) Allison V.
