Our family will be traveling to Disney World in Sept. 2013 for the first time. Is that a good time of year to go for discounts, less busy etc? What's the best way to start planning and saving? Two kids, our son is 9 and our daughter is 7 :) Thanks!

Jennifer, you have already started planning the best way possible by visiting the Disney Parks Moms Panel!

September is an excellent choice for a month to visit Walt Disney World. The high heat and humidity of the summer are past, crowds are low, and special offers are typically available.

For the best deals, keep an eye on the Special Offers page. Free dining has been available a few times in the past during September. What could be a better bargain than free food? Also do a little research on nonDisney sites such as Mousesavers for great money saving suggestions when visiting Mickey.

Your first step is to peruse the resorts and choose the right one for your budget and family. After picking a resort, take a look at the ticket options, consider whether or not to purchase a dining plan, make dining reservations, and map out your itinerary. This can seem a daunting task to a veteran visitor to WDW, so no worries if you feel a bit overwhelmed. Please contact me again or anyone on the Moms Panel as you approach each step. I would love to help you create a magical vacation for your family.

Once you book a vacation package, consider making payments on a regular basis as a way to manage your WDW budget. No structured payment plan exists but you are welcome to put money toward your package at intervals.

Your family will be wowed and amazed by their first visit to Walt Disney World. In just a few months you and your children will be able to meet Disney princesses, travel on Star Tours, zoom down Space Mountain, and eat Mickey ice cream!
