My family and I are traveling to Disney World at the end of the month. Should I let the restaurants we've reserved dinner at know that one I am vegan? My family members are not, but for health and ethical reasons, I am. Thank you in advance.

    Hi Nate,

For many years, I was a vegetarian and for part of that time followed a vegan diet while my family was not.  During this time, we visited Walt Disney World where I never had any problems with my diet.  In fact, I found eating at Walt Disney World much easier than eating at many local restaurants.  When I made our dining reservations, I did include a note about my being a vegan (this can be done online or by calling (407) WDW-DINE), which I would recommend you do, too.  I also reminded our server of this upon our arrival at the restaurant.  Because of this, the chef actually often came out to talk with me about dining choices and options for me.  If you'd like, you can read further details about my experience as well as other guests' thoughts by doing a search for vegan at the Disney Food Blog (www.disneyfoodblog.com).

Meanwhile, I wanted to let you know that you may want to make sure to visit Erin McKenna's Bakery NYC at Disney Springs which specializes in vegan and gluten-free treats. Another Disney favorite that is also vegan are Dole Whips! Please know that if you ever have any questions about the food served, you are welcome to ask for the ingredient list.

Happy Disney-Vegan Dining!  If you have any further questions, please let us know.  -Kara
