Hi Mark,
I have to tell you: I enjoy the
Wild Africa Trek so much that I have done it twice! I took this experience once with a group of adult friends, and once with my daughter, who was about 8 years old at the time. Let me share with you why I loved this experience so much.
On the Wild Africa Trek, you begin by getting fitted with some gear, and then head out with a small group of other guests and two guides. Both times I did this experience I found the guides to be knowledgeable, engaging, and happy to answer all of the questions I had. It is positively amazing to see the animals at Disney's Animal Kingdom from a different point of view. There is an adventurous piece to this experience. At one point you see hippopotamuses, and at another you walk on a high bridge! Another unique part of this experience is being able to enjoy delicious African-inspired fare from a location on the Kilimanjaro Safari. There are also terrific touches. Once when I did this experience, it was very hot, and on our safari vehicle we were offered ice cold towels to cool off with. The other time I did it, it was a bit chilly, and when we enjoyed our food, we were offered blankets to keep warm.
As for the cost, it would be something that you will have to decide, if this fits into your family's budget for vacation. When you call to book the excursion, you could ask if there are any discounts available. I do know that there are currently discounts available to both Disney Vacation Club members as well as Annual Passholders on this tour. Also, there is a range of prices for the tour. If I remember correctly, we were able to book at the less expensive price because we took a tour later in the day. That would be something else to inquire about.
I hope that these thoughts are helpful for you, Mark! Please do let us know if you have any further questions.
