Hi! My family and I will be taking our first trip to Disney World in July 21013. We will be staying for seven days and we plan to take a whole day of rest from the parks. Do you have any tips to make our vacation special and what to do on our day off?

Hi Marlee! How exciting that you will be taking your first of hopefully many more trips to Walt Disney World! I am a huge planner as well and often start our vacation planning a year in advance! I find the planning of a Disney Vacation to be "almost" as much fun as the vacation itself!  Notice, I said "almost!" I highly recommend taking a day out of your vacation to relax and enjoy your resort or some of the other exciting recreational activities around WDW! Our favorite family activities on our Resort Day (Non-Park Day) include sleeping in, enjoying a Character Dining Experience at one of the Disney Resorts, relaxing by the Resort Pool, and then roasting marshmallows by the Resort campfire and watching a Movie Under the Stars at our favorite Disney Resort, the Beach Club Resort. My family loves spending an entire afternoon by the Disney pools as cast members play fun Disney tunes and lead the kids in pool-side activities. Downtown Disney, which is a shopping and dining entertainment district, would be another fun option for your day off from the parks. Downtown Disney offers great entertainment options like Disney Quest Interactive Theme Park, AMC Downtown Disney 24, where you can even dine as you watch the newest blockbuster movie, and Cirque du Soleil - La Nouba. Many of the Walt Disney World Resorts offer recreational activities such as surrey bike rentals, arcades, Sea Raycers to rent, jogging trails, fishing excursions, and other Resort specific activities. One of our favorite ways to spend an evening at Disney is enjoying a delicious dinner at 'Ohana, located at Disney's Polynesian Resort,  and then watching the Electrical Water Pageant followed by Wishes Nighttime Spectacular on the Polynesian Beach. My biggest tip for guests coming to Walt Disney World is to stay on property! I wish I had more room for my answer, but please feel free to write me back with any other questions you may have! Best wishes for a Magical 2013 Trip, Marlee!
    Happy Planning,
    Jodie
