My family is taking our very first trip to Disney this Sept. We are currently booked at Port Orleans. We may have an option for just $400.00 more to stay at the Wilderness Lodge. I am on the fence around the change. Is it worth it for the kids?

    Hello, Daniel!

Congratulations on planning your very first trip to the Walt Disney World Resort!  Be sure to make advanced dining reservations asap.  You won't want to arrive without them, and many popular restaurants fill up months in advance.  In addition, familiarize yourself with My Disney Experience to make the most of your trip planning.

Now on to your question!  The answer is really a matter of opinion.  I truly enjoy both resorts for different reasons, and I don't think you would be disappointed either way.  That said, let me point out some differences.  The theming is unique and interesting at both resorts.  Disney's Port Orleans Resort features theming of the South while Disney's Wilderness Lodge is reminiscent of a grand lodge in the National Parks.  Port Orleans has exterior hallways while the hallways at Wilderness Lodge are all enclosed within the resort.  Disney Transportation is provided at both resorts, and you will rely solely on bus transportation at Port Orleans to get to the four major parks.  To get to Magic Kingdom Park from the Wilderness Lodge, you have the option of taking a relaxing and scenic water launch (boat).  Kids adore the pools at both resorts, but there's something extra special about the Silver Creek Springs Pool at the Wilderness Lodge. If the change to Wilderness Lodge fits within your budget, I would definitely consider it.  It falls within the Deluxe level of accommodations and I think you will be impressed with the "step up" from the moderate resorts.   Keep in mind, however, you can't go wrong either way!

I wish you a truly magical vacation.
