Jennifer:
There are 8 cabin loops at
Fort Wilderness and depending on your loop or where your cabin is in your loop can add anywhere from 5- to 15-minutes on your walk. But, in general, you are looking at about a 7-minute walk to the smaller pool near the 2500 cabin loop from the outer cabins or a 7- to 12-minute walk to the larger Meadow Pool that is located in the middle of the resort. If you want to walk from the cabins to the marina area called The Settlement where Pioneer Hall, the beach and the ferry are located, you're looking at about a 15- to 25-minute leisure walk, but again, cabin locations can vary.
Although golf carts are a certainly fun and convenient, they aren't necessary. Disney has an internal bus system within the fort. The buses for the cabins are the purple line and will either take you to the Settlement or the Outpost and a few stops in-between. If walking becomes a chore, just take the bus. Additionally, if you want to be closer to the activities at the middle of the resort and the marina, let that be known on your reservation. You can also specifically request loop 2100 with this in mind. Just make sure that you tell Disney why you're requesting that loop. That way, if there is no availability, they can try to accommodate you with proximity in another cabin loop.
Wishing y'all a magical vacation!
