Disney Magic will be here before you know it, and I’m so excited for you! You’ve chosen such a fun itinerary with
Marvel Days at Sea, and
Cozumel and
Progreso as your Ports of Call! I would love to provide my insight to help you choose Port Adventures that are right for your family.
Cozumel and Progreso are such beautiful Ports of Call! There’s so much to do at both destinations. Each offers a great taste of the Mexican coastline, filled with culture, history, beautiful scenery, and delicious eats. The differences between each are that Cozumel is more of a popular tourist destination, filled with restaurants and shops right on the port, whereas Progreso offers a richer taste of Mexican culture, history, and exploration of the Mayan ruins.
The first time I visited Cozumel, I also had a 1 and 3-year-old, and have visited many times since then! Our current favorite thing to do in Cozumel is to walk around, shop, and eat, which can be done on your own. Just be mindful of the All-Aboard time, which will be listed in the
Disney Cruise Line Navigator App. Therefore, if you're trying to decide whether or not to reserve a Port Adventure at only one Port of Call, I would recommend reserving one at Progreso, which offers plenty of historical and cultural adventures, and sightseeing around the Port of Cozumel. I also recommend bringing a stroller, which can make walking around the port much easier.
My suggestion when choosing a Port Adventure at each destination is to read the descriptions carefully and choose the one that’s easily accessible for younger kids. This means thinking about what’s important to your family, whether you’re sightseers, foodies, adventurers, etc. What’s nice is that there are plenty of age-appropriate Port Adventures that are offered at each destination, but some are more adventurous and appropriate for ages 3 and up.
You can
find the description for each Port Adventure on the Disney Cruise Line website. Filter the Ports of Call to include only “Cozumel” and “Progreso”, then you can see the Port Adventures for each destination. Next to each one will be the age-specific guidelines, so you can assess if they’re appropriate for your family.
As a suggestion, when my kids were this age, we loved choosing a more low-key Port Adventure, such as a guided tour or beach adventure. There are many of these options available at both Ports of Call, some of which offer lunch, which I always found convenient. Another factor to consider with younger kids is the time limit for each Port Adventure. This is where I factored in things such as nap times, regarding the start and end times for each. You can find the activity level and time limit of each Port Adventure by clicking on it, and “Activity Level and Duration” will be listed in the top right corner. To find the description, and if food is offered, as well as the start and end time, scroll down to “Description” and “Know Before You Go”.
