Hi there! My family has a reservation for breakfast at Cape May Cafe for an upcoming trip. I noticed there are 2 dining rooms: the main dining room, and a smaller room. Is there a way to ensure we can be seated in the main dining room? (for the ambiance!)

Well hello there Jenny, and welcome back to planDisney!

I remember reading that you had been interested in Character Dining experiences, and it's so great that we have so many options available to us at Walt Disney World Resort. I had one of my first Disney dates at Cape May Cafe (which later turned into a Disney Fairy Tale Wedding), so it definitely has a special place in my heart!

You're absolutely right that different areas of the restaurant have their own distinct feel - whether they're more private and secluded, or airy and full of light in full view of fellow guests at Disney's Beach Club Resort. In our experience, you may see a lot of families arriving for Minnie's Beach Bash Breakfast due to it being immensely popular; however I do have a few Princely Picks, Tips and Tricks up my sleeve that may help your chances in being seated in a preferred location!

    • The easiest way requires a bit of flexibility by asking the Cast Member at the podium directly as you check in early for your reservation, and letting them know that you're happy and willing to wait for a table in that area as it becomes available. Because there are so many fellow diners they may or may not be able to make it happen, but I've found that by being more understanding and less demanding upfront with the Cast Members goes a long way!
    • You might find that there's a greater probability of getting a table in the larger seating area if you're dining with a bigger group, or if your reservation falls at the very beginning or end of the Breakfast dining time.
    • We've been fortunate enough to increase our chances for a preferred seating location by opting for a reservation time later in the morning as many diners choose to eat quickly and dash off to their desired Theme Park as they open for the day. Even with a later reservation time, we try to arrive early to speak with the Cast Members and the spend the morning enjoying the surroundings at Disney's BoardWalk or quickly hopping into EPCOT and back out again in time for breakfast.

(Please note that there are never any guarantees and the Cast Members try to do their best to accommodate us guests whenever they can, but this has helped our chances in the past.) I definitely hope that my suggestions and experiences help you and your family - please feel free to come back and let me know how it worked out!

Don't hesitate to come back to planDisney again any time to ask me about character experiences and dining - two of my favorite things to talk about when it comes to Disney Destinations around the world!

Wishing you all the best on your Character Breakfast quest!
