Hi Aimee,
Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel. I just got home from a magical vacation, and I really loved having the opportunity to try lots of new beverages (and take silly pictures with said beverages) while on the Disney Dining Plan.
On our recent trip, I convinced my husband that we needed to be on the
Disney Dining Plan for #resEARch, so I would be able to help Guests coming to the Disney Parks Moms Panel for help. I took my job seriously, so I pulled out my Moms Panelist badge (just kidding...though I
seriously wish we had badges) more than once and asked lots of questions at the various restaurants we enjoyed. What I learned is that substitutions are allowable at some restaurants, but not at others, and that it’s at the discretion of your server as well as based on the way the restaurant is run. I know that doesn’t give you an easy answer wrapped up in a Minnie bow, but my best advice is to ask your server what substitutions might be available.
I love Disney Cast Members because most of them genuinely want to sprinkle pixie dust on your visit. We ate at a Quick Service location offering breadsticks, and we were told that they could count as a side (instead of salad) or could be charged as an additional snack credit. That was true in one restaurant, but may not be true at others. Similarly, I have a feeling the cupcake won't count as a substitution for a drink, but you may be able to order it as a snack credit. I suggest asking with a big smile and hoping for the best without expecting a certain outcome. We did pay out of pocket a few times when there were things that weren’t included, such as glow cubes or other cute or delicious add-ons – and that was worth it for us.
I hope that helps, Aimee. Please come back and see us if you have any other questions as you plan!
Wishing you a magical vacation,
Robyn
