Our family is planning on visiting WDW in June. My concern is that my three old son, who has Down syndrome, has a unique diet. He can't drink or eat anything that contains milk. He eat alot of high favor, crunchy foods. What suggestions would you offer?

I understand your concerns; you've got a lot to deal with!  The good news is that the chefs at the Walt Disney World resort are very accommodating when it comes to meeting dietary needs.  None of my children have food allergies so I don't have experience dealing with that particular aspect of vacation planning.  I wanted to be able to offer you some valuable information though, so I called and spoke with a Cast Member today.  After explaining your situation, she told me that when you call 407-WDW-DINE to schedule your reservations you should note the allergy to the Cast Member who will make a notation on the reservation.  The person you speak with will also be able to get you a phone number for a food and beverage representative with whom you can discuss options and solutions.  Lastly, once you arrive for the reservation, be sure to inform the Cast Member who greets you at the podium of your situation.  They will gladly inform the chef who will in turn come to your table to answer any questions you may have and suggest menu options that will accommodate your son.

If you have any other questions about travel planning for a child with Down syndrome I would be more than happy to offer my experiences.  For further questions about food allergy dining, you may want to talk to my Moms Panel friend, Laura.  She is well-versed on the subject matter and would, undoubtedly, be happy to help however she can!
