Welcome to planDisney, Ruth! Thanks for swinging by with such a great question. Planning out
Lightning Lane Multi Pass with
Rider Switch for a family can feel a little bit like solving a Disney puzzle, but don't worry, I'm here to help make all the pieces fit together perfectly!
Let's break it down using your example. If Adult 1 and Child 1 are going to ride
Slinky Dog Dash using Lightning Lane and you want to use Rider Switch, that means Adult 2 (who will ride after the first group returns) must also have a Lightning Lane return time for Slinky Dog Dash. Basically, everyone who plans to ride that attraction, whether it's first or second with Rider Switch, needs to have a Lightning Lane reservation for it.
So, in this case, if Adult 2 uses their Lightning Lane for
Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway instead, they won't be eligible to ride Slinky Dog Dash using Rider Switch unless they also had a Lightning Lane return time for Slinky.
Rider Switch is such a wonderful tool for families with young kids or guests who can't ride all at once, but it doesn't let you distribute your party's three advanced Lightning Lane selections over six different attractions. It's not designed to let guests double up by splitting Lightning Lane picks across multiple attractions and using Rider Switch to cover both parties. Everyone who plans to ride needs to be booked for that attraction in the
My Disney Experience app, or the first riding group needs to go through the standby line.
So, the best way to make your plan work is to have everyone who wants to ride Slinky Dog Dash, either first or second with Rider Switch, use one of their three advance Lightning Lane selections for it. Then, you can choose Runaway Railway as a separate selection for the whole group later in the day as a day-of Lightning Lane after you've used your initial picks!
I hope that clears things up, Ruth, and hopefully your day runs as smoothly as a coaster train on Slinky's track!
