My family and I are planning a trip to Disney this summer. We are thinking of staying at the Animal Kingdom Lodge (Jambo House), and my boys are already asking me what kinds of animals we might see. Can you help me out?

The Animal Kingdom Lodge is my favorite family resort. It has a rich and detailed theme, a ton of activities, a great pool, and those unique and awesome savannas.

There are several savannas spread out along both AKL properties, Jambo House and Kidani Village. When you check in, ask for copies of the Wildlife Field Guide, enough for each party member. The field guide is a fun way for you and your kids to learn about  the Resort's animals. The guide will provide not only a listing of the animals roaming the resort's savannas, but will also provide animal identification pointers, behavioral tips, and check boxes to record any animals you spot. Think of it as a great big Disney scavenger hunt around the AKL.

Although the animals may be subject to change, Disney lists some of the exotic animals that can be found on the savannas here. Our family spotted the following animals on our last trip: Ankole Cattle (look for one walking a bit awkwardly, as if one horn is heavier than the other horn), Zebra, Okapi, Roan Antelope, Greater Kudu, Impala, Nyala, Giraffe, and ostriches.

    Enjoy your vacation.
