My family is planning a Grand Gathering to Disney World in May 2011. There will be 8 of us. 3 kids ages 13, 6, & 5. And 4 adults. One of the adults is my husband's 88yr old grandmother. Do you have any suggestions for special activities that we all ca

    Jennifer:

Although your question got cut off, I'm assuming that you are looking for special activities that you can all do together!  You can certainly call the Grand Gathering hotline at (407) 934-7639 and talk to one of Disney's Magical Gathering specialists, but after planning a family reunion for 19 and two trips for groups from my church, my biggest advice is to plan one meal together every day of the vacation.

During the day, your group may split up, have different interests and some may even decide to stay at the resort, but focusing on one gathering a day where everyone comes back together has given our family breathing room, yet special time to make memories as a group.

Our favorite meal at our reunion was attending the Hoop Dee Doo Revue at Fort Wilderness together.  The evening began as we moseyed around Pioneer Hall getting our picture taken as a keepsake.  We were hungry by the time we sat down, and thankfully, our waitress didn't dawdle.  The meal was served family-style--so nice to have someone else doing the waiting and the cooking.  But it was the show and music that appealed to both young and the young-at-heart in our group--something that's hard to find in this day and age.  We spent the time together laughing and look back on the memory we created with smiles.

Most restaurants at Disney are very accommodating to large groups, so plan your dining to include restaurants with entertainment like Ohana, Biergarten, or Teppan Edo, and your meal time together will be punctuated by fun.

My family of 6 appreciates Disney's value! Although Ft. Wilderness is our second home, we've enjoyed the resorts for business, reunions and romantic getaways. For me, Disney also means dining: last count, I'd eaten at 55 restaurants around the World! Learn More About Whitney
