My family is planning a Disney trip for the end of January 2013. We are including a magic your way plus dining What would you suggest for extra spending?

    Hi Shannon,

You were wise to include the price of your tickets, hotel room, and dining plan in your Disney vacation package.  That will definitely help you control spending while traveling.

While spending money is a very personal issue and will depend on the number of people in your travel party, I think it is safe to say that you'll want to have at least an extra $25-50 per person for each day of your trip.  That can cover souvenirs, gratuities, and an occasional treat or two not covered by the Disney Dining Plan.  It's always a good idea to have a credit card on hand in case unexpected expenses arise.  However, I greatly respect your desire to budget in advance of your trip.  Walt Disney World is full of amazing temptations; I could shop there for days and days.  If you don't set a souvenir budget in advance, it's easy to overspend while visiting the most magical place on earth.

If you have kids, discuss with them in advance of your arrival what your souvenir budget will be.  That will help them make responsible choices and will keep your budget in tact.

Thanks for posting your question to the Moms Panel, Shannon!

    Best wishes,
    Jill
