Me and my family are planning a 2 day 1 park trip to Disneyland and there is expected rain. Do you still recommend going to the park? Will parade and light shows be canceled? What else can we do while we are there?

Greetings, Victoria, and thanks for bringing your question to the Disney Parks Moms Panel! I am so excited for your Thanksgiving adventures at the Merriest Place on Earth

We have definitely been experiencing rainy weather at the Disneyland Resort recently, so this is a great question! So far, the weather forecast shows rain for most of the day, but the rest of the week is looking cool, but dry. I know this may seem surprising, but some of my family’s favorite Disneyland Resort days have been spent in the rain! The smaller crowds and shorter wait times help you maximize your time in the parks. So, I still recommend visiting the Disneyland Resort in the rain, so long as you prepare ahead of time.

For starters, I recommend purchasing a poncho for each member of your family, so you don’t have to carry umbrellas around all day. On a rainy day, you can find adult and child-sized ponchos at most shops on Main Street, U.S.A. (in Disneyland Park) and on Buena Vista Street (in Disney California Adventure Park). Next, be sure your family is dressed for the rain, complete with rain boots, if you have them. You may also want to pack a change of clothes, including socks, and store them in a rental locker.

Rain can affect some entertainment options, such as parades, fireworks and shows performed outdoors. If a parade is canceled due to rainy weather, look out for the Rainy Day Cavalcade of Characters down Main Street, U.S.A., where you can still catch a glimpse of your favorite Characters. Luckily, most attractions will remain open, and there are also plenty of indoor alternatives. Inside Disney California Adventure Park, my family loves heading to the Disney Animation Building to escape the rain. Inside Disneyland Park, we head to The Disney Gallery or Star Wars Launch Bay. Many Characters will also make their way to The Disneyland Story Presenting Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln for drier meet-and-greets.

If you’re unsure about possible attraction or entertainment closures or schedule changes, I recommend visiting City Hall in Disneyland Park, or Chamber of Commerce in Disney California Adventure Park. You can also download the Disneyland app, which is my favorite handy helper in the parks.

Rain or shine, I know you’re going to make magical memories during your Disneyland Resort adventures, Victoria!
