Jason:
Our family has stayed at Port Orleans and loved it--even though we're from South, Miss. and the theming is so familiar. My husband and I are going back to Port Orleans: French Quarter in a few weeks for our anniversary!
What makes Port Orleans stand out shoulders above the other Moderate resorts is not only its grounds that are on par with the deluxe resorts but its boat transportation to Downtown Disney--a hit with kids. The pools have big slides, so if you're there for a longer stay, that's something to consider.
A while back, I answered another guest about why I recommend the Basic Dining Plan over the Deluxe Plan (you can view it
here). In a nutshell, the Basic Plan provides plenty of opportunity for Character Meals--and even a dinner show without busting the budget. For a family, it strikes the right balance between fun dining while not spending too much time out of the parks while filling you up!
As for the park hopper pass, our family of six usually opts to spend the $50 a person on a special event like a dinner show or souvenir. However, most of the time are decision is equally based on having to tote a stroller. The park hopper is a good investment for longer stays like yours, especially if you have teenagers and aren't having to be mindful of small children or anyone with mobility issues. It gives you flexibility for dining and is a life-saver if you are visiting during the busier times of the year.
Wishing y'all a magical vacation!
