Hi, Katherine! Welcome to planDisney!
The Cabins at Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground are a must-do for my family every year! I absolutely love staying in our own little home-away-from-home, with a full kitchen, a living room and separate bedroom, and a private deck that just happens to be a perfect spot for enjoying a cup of morning coffee. It will be a lovely way to spend Thanksgiving weekend!
The "Fort" hosts
Movies Under the Stars each night at the Meadow Recreation Area, which is just down the path from the Meadow Swimmin' Pool and behind the Meadow Trading Post. You're welcome to bring blankets and snacks. There's even a
campfire pit so you can make s'mores, and supplies are sold at the Meadow Trading Post! One thing to keep in mind is that the ground is covered with stones in the movie screening area, so it's not really conducive to laying a blanket out to sit on. There's plenty of bench and bleacher seating, though, so your blanket will be more useful as a cover-up if it's a little chilly.
Since you'll be visiting right around Thanksgiving, I'd expect one of my very favorite things to do at Fort Wilderness to be in full swing - looking at all the campers' Christmas decorations! Guests staying in the campsites go all-out for the holidays, and they start super early, so I'm sure there will be plenty of displays to see. The best way to check out the holiday cheer is by tooling around in a
golf cart. You can rent one for a day or for your entire trip, but I recommend reserving it in advance as soon as you can, since they tend to sell out very quickly. Trust me, you'll be so glad to have a golf cart to get around the Fort!
Katherine, I hope you have a magical stay at Fort Wilderness! It's such a special place, and I just know your family will love it. Happy holidays, and please come see us again if you have any more questions!
Keep Disney Dreaming,
Kathy K.
