Family of 3 (2 parents, one 13yo) -sailing on a 4nt Bahama Cruise on the Dream in March- cannot wait! My question is about hotel before and after- we booked the ground transfers, so should we fly into and stay in a hotel in Orlando or in Port Canaveral?

    Hi, Teri!

Congratulations on your upcoming cruise on the Disney Dream this spring! She is a magnificent ship and her crew is in the business of pampering guests -- be ready to be spoiled!

You have several options when it comes to staying at a hotel near Port Canaveral.  You can stay right there at the Orlando International Airport (MCO) at the Hyatt Regency. You'll be of the first on your motorcoach to the port the next morning. You can also take Disney's Magical Express on the day you arrive to a Walt Disney World Resort Hotel. Then, you'll make arrangements with Disney Cruise Line (DCL) ground transportation to pick you up the next morning at your resort. If you've already arranged ground transfers through DCL, you'll want to cancel that if you want to stay in a hotel near the port. There are several hotel options near the port which provide shuttles (either complimentary or for a small fee).

Being from the South, I usually don't have to worry as much about winter weather travel when sailing out of Port Canaveral. I just make sure we have the first flight out and that it's non-stop. Yet, your commute to Orlando may become a factor in March, and at least a one-night stay before your cruise may prove quite prudent. A hotel stay in the port area after your cruise is really up to you, and really just serves to help ease the family back into reality.  We usually have to have a dose of Disney World upon return from a Disney cruise to the Bahamas or the Caribbean. Hopefully, that helps you plan for your family, too.

Let me know if I can help you further. Have a wonderful day and a magical vacation. Bon voyage!
