My family has some older magic bands that I would like to use for an upcoming trip. I only want to use them to enter the gates and for genie plus. If the battery is dead in my magic bands will they still work for those two features?

Hey there, William, and welcome to planDisney! Thanks for stopping by the panel with your question. It’s great to have you here because it’s never too soon to ensure you’ve buttoned up your Disney Vacation planning details! It may seem like you have plenty of time to prepare for your arrival, but it’ll be here before you know it!

William, you happen to be talking to a self-proclaimed MagicBand aficionado! One of my favorite parts about planning Disney vacations is choosing a brand new MagicBand for myself … every time! Walt Disney World estimates that the battery life for a MagicBand is about two years. The fantastic news is that I have a few MagicBands that are older, and work just fine. You never know; your older MagicBands may work just fine too! However, if the battery is dead in your MagicBands, they can still be used at the Theme Park entrances and Lightning Lane attraction entrances. Additionally, I recommend creating MagicMobile Passes through the My Disney Experience mobile app for your family. These passes are complimentary, housed directly on your mobile device, and serve as a convenient MagicBand backup option across the resort.

I hope this helps, William! If you have more questions while planning your Disney Vacation, stop back by and let me know

You’ve got a friend in me,
